Award ceremony for the Karl Rinner Prize 2008
The award ceremony for the Karl Rinner Prize 2008 was conducted by the president of the Austrian Geodetic Commission, Prof. Dr. Harald Schuh, at the Technical University of Vienna on November 4th 2009.
In his laudatory speech Prof. Harald Schuh first paid attention to Dr. Karl Rinner, who lent his name to the prestigious prize and who is generally considered the last “universal geodesists” in Austria, before he turned to this year’s prize-winner, Dr. Helmut Woschitz, who was honoured for his scientific work.
Following upon his excellent presentation dealing with “monitoring a deep-seated mass movement using a large strain rosette“ at the “13th FIG Symposium on Deformation Measurement and Analysis“ in Lisbon, and due to the absolute novelty of the fibre-optical measurement device that he presented, he was recognized as an extremely talented young Austrian scientist. After being given the Karl Rinner Prize certificate by Prof. Dr. Schuh and the prize money in the form of a cheque¹ by DI Hans Polly (head of the section of Engineering Consultants for Surveying for Wien, Niederösterreich und Burgenland), Dr. Helmut Woschitz spoke about his latest scientific research concerning fibre-optical devices. After the ceremony and the lecture, the participants could exchange their thoughts over a cold buffet.
