Friedrich Hopfner-Medaille - Award Recipients
Prof. Dr. Manfred F. Buchroithner
To appreciate the merits of Friedrich Hopfner, Professor for Higher Geodesy at the Vienna University of Technology from 1934 to 1949, in the field of International Geodesy, the members of the “Österreichische Kommission für die Internationale Erdmessung” (now Austrian Geodetic Commission) donated a Friedrich Hopfner-Medal for extraordinary achievements in the field of geodesy.
Every four years, in commemoration of the achievements of Friedrich Hopfner, the so-called Friedrich Hoppfner-Medal , donated by the members of the Austrian Geodetic Commission, is conferred on a worthy scientist for outstanding achievements in the field of geodesy.
In their meeting on April 28, 2010 the members of the Austrian Geodetic commission agreed to endow Prof. Dr. M. Buchroithner, TU Dresden, with the precious award.
The highlights of the bestowal ceremony, which was held at the Ferdinand Eidherr Saal of the BEV on November 10, 2010, were the award presentation by rector Dr. Peter Skalicky, and the laudation given by Dr. Georg Gartner, as well as the conferment of the medal carried out by the president of the Austrian Geodetic commission, Dr. Harald Schuh. The ceremonial lecture with the title “Cartography - an Integrative, Independent and Fascinating Science” was given by Dr. Manfred Buchroithner.
Prof. Buchroithner is the latest addition to a row of worthy laureates:
Dr. Karl Killian (1978), Dr. Karl Ramsayer (1982), Dr. Hellmut Schmid (1986), Dr. Fritz Brunner (1990), Dr. Heinrich Ebner (1998) and Dr. Thomas Wunderlich (2002).
